Time Zone Converter
Enter a time and the hour difference between the two zones to calculate the converted time.
- Converted time
- 03:00
- Day change
- Next day
How the time conversion is calculated
The time offset (positive or negative, including half-hour zones) is added to the origin time. If the result goes past 24 hours or below zero, it adjusts and flags the day shift.
converted time = origin time + time offset (mod 24)
It's useful for coordinating international meetings, figuring out what time a long flight lands, or working out when a livestreamed event (a match, a launch, a premiere) announced in another country's time will air locally.
Worked example
If the origin time is 22:00 and the offset is +5, the converted time is 03:00 the next day. If it's 09:00 and the offset is -8 (e.g. Madrid to Los Angeles), the converted time is 01:00 the same day.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it support half-hour time offsets?
- Yes, you can enter decimal offsets like 5.5 for half-hour time zones (for example India, UTC+5:30).
- Does it account for daylight saving time?
- Not automatically. Use the offset currently in effect, which can change with daylight saving in each zone.
- How do I find the time difference between two cities?
- Check each zone's UTC offset and enter the difference between them as the time offset.
- Why does the day sometimes change, not just the time?
- Adding or subtracting the offset can push the result past midnight; the calculator flags whether that lands on the next day or the previous one.
