How compressing PDF works

The tool removes unnecessary metadata (author, title, keywords) and rewrites the file using a more compact internal structure.

This is a 'structural' compression: it works best on text-heavy PDFs or documents generated by office editors. On scanned PDFs or files with many high-resolution images, savings may be small because images are not recompressed.

Worked example

A 2.4 MB PDF with extensive metadata and an unoptimized structure may drop to 2.1 MB after compression; the actual savings depend on each file's content.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. It works best on text documents; scanned PDFs with heavy images usually see smaller savings.
Does image quality get worse?
No, images are not recompressed or rescaled, only the file structure is optimized and metadata is removed.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, compression happens entirely in your browser.
