How to use the 10-minute timer
This tool is already set to exactly 10 minutes, so there's nothing to configure: just press 'Start'.
You can pause and resume it whenever you want; when it reaches zero, an alert will sound and the time will change color.
A common duration for active work breaks, short meditation sessions, or timing kitchen waits like letting dough rest or boiling certain foods.
In guided meditation, 10 minutes is the most commonly recommended length to start a daily practice, since it's short enough not to abandon the habit yet long enough to notice a calming effect; many mindfulness apps use that same benchmark.
Worked example
Press 'Start' and the countdown will go from 10 minutes down to 0:00, sounding an alert when it finishes. It's also the usual resting time for bread dough to rise slightly before working it.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I change the duration?
- No: this timer is fixed at 10 minutes. If you need a different duration, use the customizable countdown timer.
- Can I pause it midway?
- Yes, the pause button stops the countdown without losing the remaining time.
- Does the alarm sound even if the tab is in the background?
- Yes, the sound alert plays even if you've switched to another tab, as long as you haven't closed this page.
- Why is 10 minutes a common meditation length?
- Because it's an accessible starting point for beginners: long enough to notice the first calming and focus benefits, without being so long that it discourages daily consistency.
