How the Pomodoro technique works

The Pomodoro technique alternates focused work blocks with short breaks; after completing several work rounds, you take a longer break to recover better.

When each phase ends, the timer automatically moves to the next one (work, short break, or long break) and plays an alert, with nothing for you to do.

Worked example

With the classic setup (25 min work, 5 min short break, 15 min long break every 4 rounds), after 4 work blocks the tool jumps straight into the long break.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use durations other than the classic 25/5/15?
Yes, every duration and the number of rounds are configurable before you start.
What happens if I change values while it's running?
Changes apply to a new cycle; press 'Reset' and then 'Start' again to run with the new settings.
Does it stop after the last round?
Yes, once the configured total number of rounds is complete, the timer marks itself as done and doesn't chain any more breaks.
