How the random timer works
Set a range of minutes (minimum and maximum) and press 'Roll duration'. The tool picks a random number of seconds within that range, with equal probability for every value.
Once a duration is rolled, it's shown on screen and you can start the countdown just like on the regular timer.
Worked example
If you set a range of 1 to 10 minutes, the tool might roll, say, 4 minutes 12 seconds, and that becomes the countdown time.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I roll again if I don't like the result?
- Yes, press 'Pick another duration' to discard the result and roll again.
- What's a random-duration timer useful for?
- It's handy for games, group activities, surprise-element workouts, or avoiding knowing exactly how long a wait will be.
- What happens if I set the minimum higher than the maximum?
- The tool shows a warning and won't roll any duration until you fix the range.
