How PDF to Excel works

Each PDF page becomes a sheet in the Excel file. Text is grouped into rows by vertical position, and split into columns based on horizontal gaps between blocks of text.

This is an approximate method: it works well on simple, grid-aligned tables, but does not accurately reconstruct complex tables, merged cells, or scanned PDFs (with no real text).

Worked example

A 2-page PDF with a 'Product' and 'Price' table on each page produces an Excel file with 2 sheets, each approximating those columns by row.

Frequently asked questions

Does it reconstruct complex tables?
Not accurately. It works best with simple, grid-aligned tables without merged cells.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No, it needs real, selectable text in the PDF; scanned PDFs contain no extractable text.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, extraction happens entirely in your browser.
