How PDF to text works
All text from every PDF page is extracted, grouping lines by position, and saved into a .txt file with a blank line between pages.
This only works on PDFs with real, selectable text: scanned PDFs (images of pages) produce no text, since this tool doesn't include optical character recognition (OCR).
Worked example
A 2-page text PDF produces a 'file.txt' file with page 1's text, a blank line, then page 2's text.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it work with scanned PDFs?
- No, this tool extracts real text from the PDF; scanned PDFs (which are images) would need OCR, which isn't available here.
- Is text formatting (bold, sizes) preserved?
- No, the result is plain text with no formatting at all, just the textual content.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No, extraction happens entirely in your browser.
